Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Amendment Rules 2021 to be implemented from 1st December

As per last notification released on 28th of March 2022 associated with the upcoming Legal Metrology Packaged commodity amendment rules 2011. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, (Department of Legal Metrology) has released new notification on the 30th of September 2022.

As per the new notification, the department of Legal Metrology has put an extension on the implementation of Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity Amendment Rules 2021 which was earlier 1st October 2022 has been extended to 1st December 2022. Vide G.S.R. 747(E). 

In exercise of the powers discussed by sub-section (1)read with clauses (j) and (q) of sub-section (2) of section 52 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (1 of 2010), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011

Important Highlights of the LMPC Amendments Rules 2021:

1. These rules may be called the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment (Amendment) Rules, 2022 shall come into force on the 1st December 2022. 
2. The disclosing the unit sale price in rupees has been stated in the notification. The unit sale price (rounded off to the nearest two decimal places) shall be stated on every pre-packaged commodity as stated in the previous article.  
3. The packages comprising spirituous liquor or alcoholic beverages, the State Excise Laws and the rules shall be applicable within the State of manufacturing. 
4. Elimination of the Schedule 2, Rule 5 of the packaged commodity rules 2011, which create a significant impact on the manufacturer/ packer, importer and trader of the products like Tea, coffee, flour, butter, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit drinks etc. earlier they were forced to pack their commodities in the pre-specified quantities only, after the successful implementation of this notification they shall be able to pack their commodity freely as per there will. 
5. No prosecution shall be initiated against the manufacturer or packer or importer of pre-packaged commodities.
