An EPR authorization Registration is a mandatory certificate implemented by the regulatory authorities of the government of India for e-waste, plastic waste, and battery waste that requires producers to take responsibility for their product life-cycle in environment-friendly end-life management of the product. As per the recent notification, producers, brand owners, importers, and bulk consumers obligatory to comply with the waste management rule. This means that the producers, importer, and brand owner are responsible to ensure that their products are properly collected, recycled, and disposed of as per the regulation.

The government of India has appointed PRO (Producer Responsibility Organisation) to take responsibility on behalf of producer end-life management like collection and channelization to ensure environmentally sound management of the waste of their products. To comply with EPR regulations, PRO assists companies to obtain EPR Registration for e-waste, plastic waste, and battery waste from the regulatory authorities. This EPR Registration certificate serves as proof that the company has met the regulatory requirements and is authorized to manage and dispose of such waste.

Why government of India made EPR Registration Mandatory?

The government has made EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) registration mandatory to encourage responsible waste management practices and to shift the burden of waste management from local authorities to producers. EPR is a policy approach that places the responsibility for the management of end-of-life products on the producers.

By making EPR registration mandatory, the government is trying to achieve several objectives, including:

  1. Promoting sustainable production practices: EPR encourages producers to design products with end-of-life management in mind, which can lead to the development of more sustainable and eco-friendly products.
  2. Reducing waste and pollution: By taking responsibility for the end-of-life management of their products, producers can reduce waste and pollution by implementing proper waste management practices such as recycling, reusing, and reducing waste.
  3. Encouraging innovation: EPR encourages producers to invest in research and development of new technologies and processes to reduce waste and improve the end-of-life management of products.
  4. Shifting the financial burden of waste management: By placing the responsibility for waste management on producers, the government can shift the financial burden from local authorities to producers, which can reduce the strain on public finances.

Applicability of EPR Registration
