In a bid to ensure the opening of grocery stores 24×7, the department of civil supplies and consumer affairs constituted a special team to check no retail stores remain closed and to physically open and verify the stock from the godowns of suppliers/wholesalers to curb the practice of hoarding.
The three members' special team comprising of Inspector of Civil Supplies, Commercial tax, and Legal Metrology have been authorized to take action against any hoarding under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980 and other relevant Acts.
The department has asked all the retail stores and stockists and wholesalers to keep their business premises open failing which stringent action will he initiate as per prevailing laws.
The order issued by the director of civil supplies and consumer affairs mentioned that the department has received complaints that retail stores and suppliers have purposely kept their business closed to create hoarding and further consequent price rise. Hence to curb the illegal practice of hoardings and to ensure all stores remain open the team is constituted.
