What is Legal Metrology Dealer License?

Legal metrology dealer registration is required to be obtained by any person who is involved in the trading, distribution and marketing of weights and measuring equipment and devices. In case a manufacturer or importer also acts as a dealer, then he is required to apply for legal metrology dealer license along with the importer or manufacturing license.

Process to Obtain Legal Metrology Dealer License

Following is the detailed process for legal metrology dealer license:

• Every person who is desirous of apply for legal metrology dealer registration is required to file an online application for registration to the office of the inspector of legal metrology. The application should be filed with the civil or district sub division along with all the necessary documents.
• After the filing of the application, the inspector shall inspect the application and all the relevant documents following which, he shall conduct an inspection of the premises. The inspector shall then prepare an inspection report and submit it to the office of the Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology within a period of 15 working days after the receipt of the application.
• Upon receiving the application, relevant documents and the inspection report from the inspector, the Assistant Controller shall inspect them and forward them to the Controller within 5 working days along with the relevant recommendations.
• The Controller or an officer authorized by him on this behalf shall inspect all the documents and the inspection report. Upon inspection, if the Controller believes that a license can be issued to the applicant after considering the recommendations from the Assistant Controller, the licensing authority shall inform the same to the applicant.
• Once the applicant deposits the required fees, the legal metrology dealer license shall be granted.

• ID proof of the applicant
• Address proof of the applicant
• Two passport size of photos of the applicant
