Surprise visits at Fish market by Legal Metrology department to check scale

The Legal Metrology Department has decided to attain surprise visits at fish markets to check scales after a complaint received of weight discrepancies at markets. The inspector inspected about twenty-five (25) fish vendors at the wholesale market, among which 5 weighing instruments were detained. 

The inspector asked all the fish vendors to display invoices of the weighing instrument or verification certificate at their fish selling store. If someone fails to display the certificate, necessary actions as per law would be taken. 

The Legal Metrology department carried a massive drive in the SGPDA market and Margao wholesale Market for the inspection of weight & measures including weighing instruments. The department also disclosed that they will conduct surprise visit drives across Goa. Considering the same, all the fish distributors and vendors need to obtain the certificate of weight and measurement. 

The fish vendor and distributor failed to obtain the service benefit even after providing the on-site facility stamping of weights and measures and verification at the SGPDA markets and wholesale market. 
The official informed fish vendors in both the market that failing to comply with Legal Metrology compliance will lead to strict action on the compliance of the provisions of the Act and Rules. 

The official also said that the department’s inspector booked one packaged drinking water unit for bottled water without a packer registration certificate under rule 27 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
